Mary is founder and Artistic Director of Red Room Theatre, she has extensive experience in devising theatre, directing, and performing. She has an MPhil in Actor Training, University of Kent (2007), and BA Theatre (Hons), Dartington College of Arts (1985). Her research interests include, embodied and interdisciplinary performance processes, rewilding imagination, deepening creativity and consciousness through performance making, and embodied imagination. She has been a Senior Lecturer for over twenty five years, teaching on Drama, Acting, Performing Arts, and Dance courses in
the UK. She has extensive experience of producing and touring productions in the UK, and Europe, she received ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Show’ awards for ‘Red Room’ in Belarus (2010). The production ‘Borderland’ (2016) received funding from the Arts Council, England. She is currently
studying a practice-based PhD, this research investigates the Eerie as a dramaturgical process in performance making. Performance outcomes include the productions: ‘The Strange Geometry of Time’, University Theatre, Bath Spa University (2017), which toured to the Dreams before Dawn Festival in Paris (2017), ‘Dwelling’, a multimedia production performed at the Anglican Chapel, Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol (2019). Mary presented a paper entitled ‘Dwelling: Embodying the Eerie - a
site-sensitive dramaturgy’ at ‘Spectral Landscapes, Absence, Trauma, and Nationhood’ conference at the University of Reading, (2021). The current production: ‘This Is The Land’, toured to the Rondo Theatre, Bath, Anglican Chapel, Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol, and RITU Festival, Liege, Belgium in
2022. ‘This is The Land’ will be presented at the ‘VAULT Festival’, London in 2023.
